Whitney Pier

It is with devastating sadness we, the family, mourn the loss of our son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many, Emerson Dixon, on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Born in Halifax on January 4, 1982, Emmy was the son of Edward Emerson Dixon, and Jocelyn Marie Cook.

Emmy’s big heart and outgoing and witty personality has made him many friends throughout his life. He was known for his stories, impromptu one-liners and catchy sayings that would stick around for years. Emmy spent a lot of his time outdoors as a kid in South Harbour and on the Shore Road doing just about anything he and his cousin’s imaginations could think of.

Emmy attended school in Whitney Pier where he had many good friends and played division A hockey. Emmy was the type of person who would pop up anywhere but was always welcomed, an honest and nothing-to-hide genuine guy who loved to make people laugh.

Emmy spent much of his adulthood in Alberta where he worked hard in the Oil Fields and prided himself on a job well done. He was a proud Cape Bretoner, however, and his daughters held the biggest space in his heart.

The family finds comfort in knowing he will be laid to rest next to his brother, the late Cory Dixon.

Besides his parents, Emmy is survived by sister, Melissa Dixon; daughters, Hailey, and Hannah; grandson, Cruz; nephews, Jimmy, and Gray; as well as aunts, uncles, friends, and many close cousins including John Burton who has always been more like a brother.

Besides his brother, Cory, Emmy was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, John Clayton Dixon, and Alexandra Petrie; maternal grandparents, Harold Cook, and Margaret Fraser; uncle, John Cook, and cousin, Jimmy Burton.

There will be no visitation for the late Emerson Dixon. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney at a later date.

Donations in memory of Emerson may be made to the Whitney Pier Boys N Girls Club.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
