Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Frankie “Fats” Keough, who passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Whitney Pier, he was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Margaret Keough, as well as his sister, Carmella MacDonald.

Fats was dearly loved by his wife of 65 years, Esther (King) Keough. She was not only the love of his life, she was his partner in every way imaginable. He was her rock, always standing together through thick and thin. They were two halves of a whole, and their bond was something special, showing everyone around them the true meaning of love. Frankie took great pride in the family he and Esther created, and he was happiest when surrounded by them.

Dad is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Laura (John) Dalton; sons, Terry (Mary Margaret), Tim (Gina), and Dan (Helen). Poppy Frank will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Jenna, Danielle, Kayla, Jordan, Natile, Michelle, Alison, Kyle, Rebecca, and Daniel, as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ashtyn, Everleigh, Blake, Hayden, Cameron, Briar, Frankie, and Dominic. Fats will also be missed by his brother, Dennis; sisters-in-law, Annie Pottie and Helen Wadden; his chosen grandson, Robert Stevens, and his dear friend, Pat Gorman, with whom he often shared a cold one.

Fats spent thirty-three years of his life working with the Sydney Steel Corporation in the Coke Ovens and Tar Ponds. After his retirement, he loved to spend time at the bungalow in Upper Grand Mira, whether he was tackling projects, driving the four-wheeler, mowing the lawn, or cooking turkey dinners for his Keough clan, he truly enjoyed his time in “God’s Country”.

Frankie was incredibly humble and kind. He was the type of man who would drop everything to help someone in need. His generosity knew no bounds. He faced his brief battle with cancer with the same quiet strength he demonstrated throughout his life. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of 3A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as to Dr. Farokh and Dr. Catherine Buhariwalla for their care and support.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Patrick Keough will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, July 24, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Patrick may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
