July 16, 1953 – June 19, 2025
It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Steve Hartigan, aged 71 on Friday, June 19, 2025, at the QEII, Halifax, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 16, 1953, in Whitney Pier, Steve was the son of the late Gerald and Marguerite (Currie) Hartigan.
Steve leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 34 years Leanna (nee Burroughs) Hartigan. He was a devoted father to Tim (Christa), Edmonton, and their children, Brandon, Nolan, and Courtney; daughter, Shannon (Andrew) MacDougall, Edmonton, and their children, Keegan, and Rylan; son, Stephen, BC; son, Craig, and his daughter, Madyson, Edmonton, and daughter, Christina Hartigan (Jeff) Sydney, and his children, Bella and Addison.
Steve is survived by brothers, Paul, Frank (Donna), Dartmouth, Jerry, Ottawa; sister, Eileen, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Ann Marie Fletcher, Dominion, Francine (Steve) Fortune, Bedford, Theresa Burroughs, Tarbot, and Cathy Burroughs, Dominion; brothers-in-law, Johnny (Dea), Glace Bay, and Brian (Brenda) Burroughs, Tarbot; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by his special niece, Sara Drohan; sister-in-law, Valerie Hartigan; in-laws, Neil and Carmel Burroughs; brothers-in-law, Neil Burroughs Jr., Joe Burroughs, and Jim Fletcher; niece, Shellie, and her children, Jackson, and Emma.
Steve was a very hard-working man, he spent over 40 years as a manager with Grafton Frazier, Woolco and Walmart, where he built strong friendships with so many people.
Steve was a sports fan, and he suffered with his beloved Maple Leafs, and celebrated with the Red Sox when they finally won the World Series. Steve cherished his family get-togethers for special occasions, especially the trips to Fenway Park to see his beloved Red Sox and his special trip given to him by his children to see the Red Sox play against the Diamondbacks in Arizona for his 70th birthday.
Steve always enjoyed his time playing Tarabish and darts with his family and friends and loved snuggling around bonfires with friends that he thought of as family.
We would like to thank the Heart Function Clinic at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Paul McDonald and Dr. Meagan Keating for going above and beyond to look after Steve and the exceptional care they gave to him. It will never be forgotten. Special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors on unit 5.1 at the QEII for their kindness and compassion shown to Steve and his family during his stay
Visitation for the late Steve Hartigan will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (Entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
