We regret to announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend Darlene (Dada) Sparling, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 in the Halifax Infirmary, Halifax.

Darlene was the oldest daughter of the late George and Pauline Sparling (MacGillvary).

Mom was employed for many years with Co-op grocery store, EDS and also Servicom. Mom was happiest with a house full of people and making sure everyone was fed. You could be sure never to leave Mom’s hungry.

Mom’s favorite pastime was spending time with her best friend and grandson, Joshua Carter, and her pride and joy, her granddaughter, Leaha Rose.

Mom leaves behind to mourn the love of her life and partner for over 30 years, Colby MacInnis; daughters, Cara Mulrooney and Kayla Sparling; sisters, Charlie (Coke) Bonaparte, Gina (Gary) LeBlanc and Nancy (Kelly) Sampson; grandchildren, Leaha Mulrooney (Kalvien Sharpe) and Joshua Sparling; as well as aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by godchildren, Cindy Aucoin and Carl MacVicar who she loved immensely, Jeff Ellis and his girls Bella and Addison, her honorary grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Darlene was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Legge; sister, Neila Clarke; son-in-law, Paddy Mulrooney, and brother-in-law, Greg Clarke.

Special thanks to the ICU Team at the Halifax Infirmary for the care and compassion you gave Mom and the family, it will not be forgotten.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Darlene Sparling will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Monday, May 12, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 12 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
