It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Wayne Clarke, with his family by his side, left us on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born in Glace Bay on October 12, 1946, Wayne lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep love, and a passion for building—both with his hands and in the lives of those he loved.
A true craftsman, Wayne found joy in the simple act of creation. Whether it was a backyard shed, a set of shelves, or fixing what others thought was beyond repair, he believed there was nothing a hammer, a little patience, and some hard work couldn’t fix. His handiwork still stands in the yards and homes of neighbors, friends and family alike—a lasting legacy of his talent and generosity.
But more than anything, Wayne was a family man. He was the son of late Richard and Lillian Clarke; proud and loving husband to Colleen Clarke (nee McIntyre); father of Sherry Roberts (Rodney), B.J. Clarke (Megan), Wayne Clarke Jr (Sherri), and his daughter by heart, Michelle Asada (Rennie); a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren, Ryan (who he thought of more as a son than a grandson), Samantha, Morgan, Alicia, Jamie Lynn, Tianna, and Cason; great-grandfather multiple times over and a brother to Rita Bennett and Lorna Perrins. A special thanks goes out to Cheryl Hynes for her love, strength, and help with the family during this difficult time.
Wayne’s family was his greatest source of pride, and his presence will be deeply missed at every gathering, every meal, and every story shared. He will be remembered for his characteristic “🎵🎶 hmm-hmm-hmm 🎶🎵” heard whenever he walked into a room, warm laugh, his strong hands, his quiet wisdom, and the way he always made time for those he loved. His legacy is one of love of family, resilience, and the deep satisfaction of a life well-lived.
He leaves behind a family who adored him, a lifetime of memories built with care, and a world so much better for his having been in it.
Private memorial service to celebrate the life of Wayne Clarke will be held in his honour. Interment will take place in St. Eugene’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dominion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wayne’s memory to the Halifax Infirmary, Critical Care Unit (https://my.qe2foundation.ca/donations/) or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, Trauma Unit (https://www.cbrhfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/donate-now/).
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
He built with his hands, but he shaped the hearts of all who knew him.

I am so sorry to learn of Wayne’s passing. I worked with Wayne for a number of years at Central Supplies. He was brilliant at what he did. Wayne always had few seconds for a laugh or a joke and those seconds often did a great deal to brighten my day. Many times the sound of his laughter could be heard from one end of the building to the other and it always brought smiles to those who heard it. I have thought of Wayne often and with great fondness. He was just a great guy.
My most sincere condolences to you and your family at this most difficult time.

Where do I start….. Wayne was at work at 5 ish AM every morning. He was always the constant presence. Fondly known by some as The Pooh.
If it had to do with anything Central Supplies, he was there. Always.
If someone that worked there needed help. Always there. Carpet torn out, floor laid, horseshoe partner, pool table partner. There. He always had everyone’s back. When funds were missing from the front end, the pooh was sharp to see who it was. That’s all I’ll say on that. He had more energy than 6 guys and taught us younger guys the meaning of getting it done.
Some mornings I would meet the mechanic at work for truck maintenance. I went in one Sunday morning at 7am to get a truck out for service. Wayne was already there doing his thing. I tried yelling, got on the intercom to tell him I was there. No response. I heard a vacuum cleaner going in the lunch room so headed there to let him know I was there. P
Vacuum turns off, Wayne walks out, turns as white as a sheet, knees buckle. I thought I had to call the ambulance lol.
As fine a man as I’ve ever known.
My deepest condolences to all the family and friends he’s touched.
So sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers to each of his family. Keep his memories and he will always be in your heart. He was a sweet man
